To this day, it’s believed that the remains of more than 20,000 bodies rest under Washington Square. It’s certain that in the coming months James Jackson’s story, and his chapter in the history of the city itself, will come more fully to light.

It is a shame that this man's final resting place will most likely never be found. He deserves to have his headstone placed on his grave. It is outrageous that so many graves are desecrated every year, either by vandalism or by being plowed under in the name of progress. If we cannot respect the dead, how can we be expected to respect the living?
