The Camelot property management company are looking for five people to live in the Carlton Abbey Hotel, in County Kildare, to act as “live-in guardians” to the property.

The hotel is a landmark building, originally the Sisters of Mercy convent, and has been carefully restored to retain some of its original features.

Before it closed suddenly on 2nd January this year, the hotel included an on-site fitness center, a spa, and a bar located in the original chapel. The hotel is located in Athy, with 1,800 years of history. It’s also very close to some major golf courses, such as the K Club or Kilkea Castle, and race courses like the Curragh and Punchestown.

The only stipulations to living in hotel luxury is “no parties, no pets and no children”.

The property management group is looking for guardians to live on the luxury property for $128 (€100) per calendar month. They will sign a lease agreement with the guardians, who will act as an around the clock presence on the property.

Jeff McCann of Camelot Ireland, told the Kildare Nationalist, “This will insure that the building is in constant occupation and it is the most natural deterrent to burglars. We are looking for five live-in guardians in Athy and the guardians will live in the property under a temporary lease agreement as opposed to a rent.

“As part of the agreement they agree that there will be no parties, no pets and no children. We also insist that guardians notify us in advance of any guests that they might be having at the property.”

Of course there will be a strict vetting process for those wishing to become a live-in guardian. Those who are interested can apply through Camelot’s website here.
