A man has been released without charge by police in connection with the aggravated burglary at the home of 96-year old Margaret ‘Greta’ Lilly in Buncrana, Donegal last Saturday.

The 48-year old man was arrested on Tuesday and questioned at Buncrana Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, according to Breaking News. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Police in Dongeal are continuing to appeal for information in relation to the aggravated burglary and are asking people to contact them at Buncrana Garda Station on (001) 74-9320540.

George McLaughlin, of McLaughlin Motor Factors in Buncrana, has offered a $6,500 (€5,000) reward for information leading to a successful prosecution of those who attacked the 96-year-old.

Widow Greta Lilly was left terrified by her horrific ordeal where she was beaten by a burglar.
The 96-year-old was punched in the ribs during the incident at her home in Buncrana, Co Donegal, in the early hours of Saturday.

According to the Irish Examiner, McLaughlin said he was disgusted by the attack and he has his own personal reasons for offering the cash reward.

The two burglars are understood to have escaped with a substantial amount of cash which Ms Lilly was saving to get new windows fitted in her home.

Ms Lilly was still being treated at Letterkenny General Hospital yesterday but in spite of the ordeal, her injuries are not understood to be serious.

Meanwhile, the local credit union has set up a fund to support the injured pensioner.
