I was a Red Cross Crisis Counselor for Hurricane Andrew and this what I've learned. But first, I may have lost all personal possessions but I didn't have the snow and freezing temperatures. I haven't seen where there are any counselors there. The older people, now including myself, see life in the grandchildren or any child for that matter and that keeps their sprit alive and well. One of the worst, wish I'd another word, I recall was watching the families look up to the head of the household, be it Mom or Dad, for a solution for the problems of the necessities of everyday life. No one should feel defeated. Families come together and that is the greatest necessity anyone needs for a start. I hope to God no one thinks I'm preaching. I know New Yorkers and they are a tough breed. You will come through this.
