Do you want “legislation on love” or do you want everyone, including gay couples, “to be happy?” We asked the people of New York the question, “Should gay marriage be legalized?”
From the tongue-tied to the religious, our roving reporter tracked down some interesting opinions on love, privacy, and gay marriage, in Union Square, Manhattan.
Just last year, gay marriage in New York was legalized and so far thousands of couples including New York City Speaker Christine Quinn have taken advantage of the change. In fact, the first gay couple to get married in New York had Irish roots.
Last week, a new poll in Ireland showed that two-thirds of the Irish agree that gay marriage should be legalized. Historically, President Barack Obama and Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland Eamon Gilmore declared their support last year.
This week, New Yorkers young and old, native and immigrant, had their say on IrishCentral.

why not,who cares, except they should not try and force christian people who dont believe in homosexuality to allow them christian church weddings.(AS THEY ALREADY HAVE THE RIGHT TO A CIVIL PARTNERSHIP)Also i dont believe they should be allowed to adopt children(BECAUSE ALL CHILDREN NEED A MOTHER ,AND A FATHER).I AM NOT RELIGIOUS BY THE WAY.

YES, everyone of legal consenting age should be ALLOWED to marry the person they LOVE....and have ALL the SAME RIGHTS & PROTECTIONS under the law.....marriage ( no matter what the bible thumpers want to believe) is NOT about having kids....it's about LOVE and PARTNERSHIP....and civil unions DON'T give all the same rights and protections, that are given to STRAIGHT couples marriage....then you have all the legal paper work, that needs to be filed, that costs ALOT of $$$....and doesn't help them outside their state. alisa

Absoltely not. Marriage is between a man and a woman. What two people choose to do is their own business but redefining marriage, the cornerstone of civilization to sanction deviant sex is absurd.
