Last Friday a Bronx woman was overjoyed when she spotted her missing Irish Wolfhound on a TODAY report. Now just five days later she’s returning her dog to the pound.
Ruth Torres initially lost her dog, Dusty, when her brother abandoned him at a dog run. Three weeks later she spotted the dog on a TODAY spot about giving dogs a makeover. However, just six days after she was reunited with her dog, the Bronx local says she feels “awful” but she has to permanently part with the dog.
Torres explained that over the last three weeks she has moved in to her mother’s home where there are another three dogs. Sadly the large Irish dog does not get on with her mother’s dogs.
It appears that Irish Dusty is “too wild” for the other pets.
Sadly his owner returned him to the Animal Care and Control shelter who groomed him for this TODAY appearance. Torres says she did not abandon the dog the first time.
The shelter’s spokesman told NBC they have already received several calls about Dusty and they are hopeful that he will find a home.
Here’s NBC’s report:
Here’s the initial story about the dog on the “TODAY”:

I didn't think it looked like an Irish Wolfhound, either.

its proven that animal cruelty is on the increase, half of the problem is that people get lovely little dogs that grow up into totally unsuitable pets that they have no idea how to control train or look after, alsations, lurchers, spaniels, working dogs, going crazy in little council houses, dogs locked up all day while the owners are at work,350,000 thousand dogs destroyed every year, while unscrupulous breeders sell hundred of thousands dogs, then there are all the abandoned pit bulls, staffs ,rottwielers, many abandoned by drug users, the rescue homes are inundated with these breeds, also the many attacks on children and other dogs by these unsuitable breeds who were bred for centuries in bull and badger and dog on dog fights,so that unpredictable behaviour can break out, aspecially if encouraged by criminal types to be savage, there should be a test to prove suitability of ownership, and severe penalties for cruel irresponsible ownership, nation of animal lovers, dont make me lagh.

It's a lurcher. The press "improves" the news to make it more interesting. Idiots

I would move out of my mother's house rather than give up my dog.

If that's a wolfhound then I'm Brian Boru!!!!! The lack of size would indicate a possible lurcher

You're right Gray Ghost, the dog is way too small to be an IW and the shape of its head is also not correct. It may be a mutt with some IW in him.
