Guinness summit? Obama and Putin to enjoy a pint at the G8 Summit
World leaders to visit a traditional Irish pub in Fermanagh for a pint of plain
Plans are already being hatched for the informal session, complete with tradition Irish music, away from the five star hotel that will host the meeting.
The reports says the US President and Russian PM will clink glasses and say ‘slainte’ in front of cameras but not the official venue near Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh.
President Obama was famously photographed enjoying a pint on his last visit to Ireland when he spent time at his ancestral homeland of Moneygall.
The location for his June pint remains top secret for the off-site social night involving all eight world leaders but names of guests for the event have been submitted to security chiefs.
Plans are also afoot for the world leaders to play golf at the five-star Lough Erne resort where world number two Rory McIlroy has a home.
A series of ‘informal’ chats with locals is also in the works according to the paper.
Sources told the Irish Sun that security arrangements to deal with protesters and dissidents are being assessed hour by hour.
Work started last weekend on a five-mile long outer security cordon around the venue. This will be heavily guarded by thousands of police, security officers and troops.
An inner ‘sterile zone’ cordon has been established where any breach will be met with ‘deadly’ force according to the paper.
Local police believe anti-capitalist protests are planned for Belfast and Enniskillen.
Locals have already been stopped and had their cars searched ahead of the June 17-18 conference.
Local Sinn Fein MLA Phil Flanagan said: “It’s a bit excessive. It’s going to be going on for six or seven weeks for what is a two-day event.
“Schools will be closed, public transport timetables changed and mobile phone services hit due to demand from the thousands of media set to arrive."
