First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters tipped for Irish visit in June
Will travel south while husband attends G8 summit in Enniskillen in North
First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters Sasha and Malia are expected to visit Ireland June 17 and 18th while President Obama is at the G8 summit in Enniskillen.
The Irish Times reports that the president’s wife is expected to travel south during Barack Obama’s time in Northern Ireland.
It is believed that she will revisit Moneygall, the President’s ancestral home, where local speculation has been for some time that a second visit is on the cards.
Barack Obama will be in Enniskillen at the exclusive Lough Erne resort where the G8 conference will be held and may also go to Belfast to reiterate his support for the peace process.
He also may possibly play golf with Irish, world number two ranked, Rory McIlroy during his brief stay.
The Times reports that U.S. officials “have been instructed to plan a trip” by Michelle and that an advance team is expected in Dublin shortly to begin the arrangements.
Michelle Obama is believed to have very much enjoyed her visit to Ireland in May 2011 when she traveled to Moneygall with the President and got a rapturous reception. This will be the first visit to Ireland by her daughters who are mostly shielded from the limelight by the President and First Lady.
During the recent St. Patrick’s festivities, Irish leader Enda Kenny told the president that there was a “standing invitation” for the president and first family to visit Ireland “whenever is appropriate and convenient”.
From Northern Ireland President Obama is expected to fly to Berlin before returning to the United States.
Meanwhile, Vice President Joe Biden is also expected in Ireland this year possibly on a family vacation in August. His ancestors are from County Louth and County Mayo.
