Maybe some have to do with bullying, but most cannot afford to further thier education now, the pressure of passing exams is a big cause in 17/18 yr olds, and the threat of having to leave home and country is very hard on some too. Mainly it is 30/50 yrs that are hit the hardest. Trying to keep the bailif from the door, and losing a job.

Child abuse and bullying may also be playing a role.

I would very much doubt that a rise in suicide among children under 17 year olds has anything to do with the economy.

I would question whether a 16 or 17 year old even knows about the economy - let alone that the economic downturn would be the reason for suicide. Why are there not more suicides by older folks who have been directly effected by a bad economic environment? I would be suspicious of drug use. I agree that counseling should be a solution.
