Irish is a dead language that the Irish people choose not to speak. This is despite the considerable efforts of the Irish language Nazi's to force it on them. Children in Irish schools waste valuable hours of what should be time spent on education learning a useless language. If Irish people wanted to speak Irish they would but they don't. It's like oul Auntie Mary in the old folks home: no body speaks ill of the oul demon but nobody wants to visit. It never occurs to the Irish language Nazi's how much poorer the country would be if English was not the first language. Every time a few high tech jobs are announced some minister will be up citing the attraction of "our young English speaking workforce". Millions of taxpayers money is wasted year after year translating documents into Irish so millions more can be wasted storing them. The Gathering is just a money making exercise meant to fleece gullible Americans who have convinced themselves they are actually Irish.
At last someone else here who decries the orchestrated snub of Gaelic/Irish language, promulgated by this Gathering. It translates as An Cruinníu folks. Take back our language that the Dublin elite want to keep to itself, and reclaim it. Its not a Classical language yet!
Since most of the Wild Geese who followed Sarsfield to France after the fall of Limerick in 1691 were fairly familiar with teanga na nGael, is there room for those of us a bhfuil Gaeilge mhasartha maith againn in this Wild Geese website?
