Congratulations to IrishCentral competition winner John McKenna - you won an iPad
A fire department worker with strong Irish roots wins IrishCentral’s Summer Giveaway
We have a winner!
John McKenna, from Northport, New York, is the lucky winner of IrishCentral’s Summer iPad giveaway having entered our Facebook competition.
Our winner was lucky enough to be chosen from thousands of Facebook entrants and now the new Apple iPad is winging its way to his door.
We caught up with John (47), a long time reader of IrishCentral, who told us a little about himself.
He said, “I live on the beautiful north shore of Long Island in a historical and picturesque harbour town called Northport.
“I work for the fire department and enjoy many outdoor activities (skiing, boating, golfing and more).”
As well as keeping in touch with Ireland and all things Irish through IrishCentral, John has strong roots in the Emerald Isle.
He explained “Mom's family is from Gweedore, County Donegal and Dad's family is in the North from Maghera, County Derry. We have tons of relations on both sides of the pond now. And we visit often.”
John says that he was delighted to hear he had won the Summer Giveaway as he is a long time reader of IrishCentral.
“My family and I are longtime proud Irish-Americans. I grew up with all things Irish (music, ceilis, news, and of course relatives speaking Irish)," John said.
“IrishCentral came across my computer one day while reading some news stories on RTE.ie there was a link for IrishCentral. I clicked it then and have never left. It’s a brilliant medium to stay on top of what’s going on back across the pond and here, Stateside.”
“I enjoy the fact that, for the most part, IrishCentral is open and affords equal opportunity for all sides of a news story. In addition to the published stories themselves, I particularly enjoy the readers’ comments posted thereafter. IrishCentral, in my opinion, has first class credibility.”
We expect to see some first class photos taken on his new iPad in Ireland this September after John heads over for the Notre Dame versus Navy game in Dublin.
John said, “As a matter of fact, we're off again to the Emerald Isle on the 27th of this month. We'll be enjoying the Notre Dame vs Navy game in Dublin. Fair warning to Dublin...there are 10 of us coming over. I know there'll be more than 35,000 Americans in Dublin for the big game. We ten will do our best to make both Ireland and the USA proud.
“Thanks again for IrishCentral. Keeping the ties between our two great countries as strong as ever.”
