The Irish Times reports that Deputy Prime Minister Mr Gilmore outlined that his Government’s ‘primary priority’ to create jobs and an economic climate in Ireland that would allow emigrants to return, but that the visa programme was ‘not just about short-term emigration’.
Gilmore said: “Canada is one of the biggest investors in Ireland, and Irish companies now employ 60,000 people in Canada.”

Why? Why? Why? Must Irish people be forced to leave the land of their birth to get a job and live. How hard is it to provide employment for such a tiny population at home?

Irish should be fast-tracked into Canada if they meet the criteria established by our immigration dept.
They would be ideal immigrants and would mesh nicely with those already here!
I am from Newfoundland where we are very proud of our Irish heritage! My great grandfather was Liverpool Irish that came over to fish the waters around here! My grandfather Patrick Healy was born on his schooner at sea and lived there until he was 3 yrs.old before they had their home built on a small Island in the Burin Peninsula! Irish were a big part of building Canada!

Why such a niggardly opening of the border? Why only holiday visas and such a piddling number of them--when the basic stock of Canada is Irish, Scots and English? Why not just let Irish people immigrate to Canada without restriction, provided they don't become dependent on the state within the first 2 years? (If so, back they go.)Look at the huge flood of Chinese that have bought their way into Canada. The Canadians are always saying they need people: and then when Europeans want to go there they open the gate about 2 inches.

Ireland will regret letting so many Muslims in. This could happen very soon then Ireland; the once proud Catholic country will be under Sharia law. Because once the camel gets its nose under the tent, the rest will soon follow. (no pun intended) Then it will be too late to stop the Hajjis from coming in, and taking over

Sad news for those who value Irish nationality. The Irish are encouraged to abandon their homeland, in order to make room for the settlers swarming in.
