The Irish truck driver who offered his four bedroom house in Galway  for sale for $2 has been inundated with offers from as far away as the U.S. Australia and Nigeria.

Michael Dempsey said he had to leave work because of the flood of calls that came in after the story broke.

There are already  several dozen offers on the property set in rural Galway.

“It seems to have struck a chord with people but it is too early yet to see if a deal can be struck,” Dempsey told the Irish Times.

He put  the house on the market “willing to consider any offers of over €1” after failing to sell it after two years. It was worth €320,000 at the height of the boom.

“It’s a liability to me at this stage. I have to insure it, maintain it, pay €200 each year in property tax to the county council and spend other money on it and may have to consider boarding it up, which would be a shame as it is a lovely house,” said Dempsey (48), a single man who lives nearby.

He built the house to provide him with retirement income but it has become a nightmare a she has been unable to sell it.
“I promised I would consider all offers and I will look at all genuine offers,” Mr Dempsey said.

He says can be contacted by writing to him at Gatestown, Moylough, Co Galway.

The inquirers included an American couple, an Australian woman with Galway links and a Nigerian doctor.

Yeah, raffle it!
why dont you rent it out
PLEASE NOT THE NIGERIAN
I think he has come up with a clever marketing idea. Just look at all the free advertising he has received all around the world. No doubt it will start a bidding war on the property. Very smart. Most of us reading this I guess, would be willing to pay a lot more than the $2.00. Great marketing ploy. I applaud his creativeness.
Maybe he could sell ticket's so some one could win the house and himselp make enough money along the way to cover his loss.
This is a silly non-story. Surely he can do better than that! It might be a good idea, however, to advertise real estate on this site.
I'm booking my ticket now...what a deal!
It is very sad. Often our dreams don't come true! Good luck with the house, Galway is a beautiful place to retire. I would jump at it if I didn't have college students here.
I wish one of the offers he was considering was mine. I'd love to live there in the place where my ancestors are from.
I've been looking for a hot property in Ireland...this is the hottest by far! I'm going to be in Galway next week on vacation - maybe I can make him an offer in person.
I'd like to make an offer and retire. What could only be the ultimate retirement. I'd sell everything here and start over...........
