Step dancers set new world record at Charlotte Irish Summer Festival
400 dancers break the old record by 88
The successful attempt for the longest choreographed dance was organized by the two Irish dance schools from the area.
The dancers broke the old record, held by Rockland, New York, by 88 dancers. The troupe held hands together in a circle and step danced for five minutes straight to enter the fabled record book.
“With such a thriving Irish community and support from the city, it’s our goal to continue to grow Charlotte's Irish Summer Festival into a destination event with visitors from all over the country,” said festival founder Kevin Devin.
During the two-day festival day there were Gaelic games from the Charlotte Gaelic Football Club, Irish dance lessons, and performances by Walsh Kelley School of Irish Dance and Rince na h’Eireann.
Congratulations to all concerned!
