Irish superstar Colin Farrell would be dead today if it weren’t for his son.

At least, that’s what the actor revealed in a recent interview for Irish TV.

“I don’t know if I would be here if I hadn’t had him,” Farrell said.

Farrell, 32, had his son, James, 6, with American model Kim Bordenave. James suffers from Angelman Syndrome, a condition characterized by intellectual and developmental delay, speech impediment and seizures.

The Irish actor often praises his son in the press, often referring to him as a "blessing," and a "gift."

Farrell credits his son for inspiring him to enter rehab. “He was a huge part of me going in and making certain changes in my life,” he said.

The “In Bruges” star explained that he has a “propensity for addiction.” That, coupled with the fact that he hit it big in Hollywood, where drugs run rampant, led him on a dangerous track.

“I went over to Los Angeles and it was handed to me on a plate, parties in the Playboy mansion and this and that and the other,” Farrell said.

Motivated by his love for his son and by pressure from his family, the Irishman entered rehab in 2005 for drugs and painkillers.

“I just had a broken heart and was profoundly sad. I had all these wonderful things in my life and yet I found myself at this point.”

But now, thanks to James, Farrell is back on track. He successfully completed the program, and regularly attends rehabilitation meetings. The Irish actor is now a Golden Globe winner with a bright future.

Next up for Farrell is the much-anticipated crime flick “London Boulevard,” co-starring Keira Knightley and Anna Friel, which will begin filming in May.
