Almost one in four Irish people say they judge others on their tea making abilities and the majority of tea drinkers consider the hot beverage as a source of comfort.
New research commissioned by Lyon’s Tea has revealed that 56 percent of Irish tea drinkers feel that someone knows them if they make them a cup of tea to their liking.
The study conducted by Amárach Research showed that a whopping 87 percent of people drink tea each week and that 41 percent make at least three cups in work on a daily basis.
Some 80 percent of tea drinkers think Irish tea is a source of comfort and 84 percent enjoy the beverage when they are trying to unwind. Using a specially developed pantone range of tea shades; from ‘perfect tan’ to ‘milky way’, it was revealed that ‘perfect tan ’is the best tea shade for 20 percent of Irish people’
Commenting on the research, Dr Eddie Murphy, Clinical Psychologist said, “Small courtesies, warm smiles and making a cup of tea the way someone likes it, shows recognition and awareness - that you care about them.
“When people make tea for someone they’re making an emotional connection which in turn increases fondness and trust, thus enabling the relationship to grow and develop.”
The research comes on the back of the launch of Lyons Tea's newly crafted range of richer tasting tea including Fresh Blend and Evening Blend.

There's nothing in life that can't be endured better with a cup of tea in you hand.

Dark and strong. The way Catholic ladies gave it to the brits when they first come to the North, in the hope it would poison them. However they liked it so much they stayed.

I've lived in boston thirteen years but still have to have my Irish tea. My poor wife's bladder nearly gave out back home as she learned saying no is useless you have to drink the tea offered resistance is futile.

I would agree that tea is important to the Irish especially the older generation. Visiting older relations in Ireland one of the first things they ask is "Would you liking a cuppa?". I have tea with my dad Jack here just about afternoon here in the USA. My dad Jack takes his tea with milk while yours truly takes it with Splenda, shocking I know. Of course high tea or supper in Ireland is just called "tea".

I drink coffee, but I LOVE, LOVE tea. I always bring home tea from Ireland whenever I go there - forget the souvenirs - buy TEA.
