New Year's Day Swim
Every day from 31 December 2012 to 01 January 2013
Category: ,
We are inviting people to Achill Island to ring in the New Year from both Ireland and aboard. The last sunset in Europe on 31 December will turn into a traditional celebration of island life when Achill's Pipe Bands play in 2013 at midnight. You'll have until noon on New Year's Day to recover from the celebrations. Then to wash the cares of 2012 away you can jump into the crystal blue sea at Dugort Strand at 1:00pm. The local ladies will be on hand with hot soup as you emerge from the water, and when you've dried off and dressed you'll walk over to the Strand Hotel, where you'll enjoy a complimentary hot toddie and live music. What a way to start the New Year! And all proceeds of a collection on the day will go to Achill RNLI Lifeboat, to help its voluntary crew continue to Save Lives at Sea.
