One of the entertainment blogs is Mike Farragher’s “Off the Record.” Farragher is an Irish music expert and a nationally-read columnist for the Irish Voice. His work may also be seen in a number of consumer and professional periodicals. Farragher cofounded the Web site CelticLounge.com with Larry Kirwan of the band Black 47. Another of the entertainment blogs also focuses on music. “From the Hob,” by Paul Keating, covers seisuns and trad events from Ireland to the U.S. Seisuns is the Irish word for “sessions” and refers to informal gatherings at which people play traditional Irish music. Keating writes about Irish traditional music for his column in the Irish Voice newspaper. No group of entertainment blogs would be complete without an entertainment blog devoted to movies, so IrishCentral also offers “Lights, Camera, Craic!” This entertainment blog is written by Meghan Sweeney, who describes herself as a casual movie watcher, though she does watch four Netflix movies a week. Meghan’s blog focuses on Irish and Irish-American actors and movies, as well as Irish-themed movies and characters, such as the one that inspired Meghan’s interest in the topic – Katie Scarlett O’Hara from “Gone With the Wind.” Meghan’s list of “Best Irish movies of all time,” which is topped by “The Commitments,” has inspired much debate among her readers. Rounding out our list of entertainment blogs is “Manhattan Diary,” written by Cahir O’Doherty. Cahirs’ blog differs from the other entertainment blogs in that it has a more general them of Irish arts, culture, music and politics. Cahir was educated at Yale University and has worked as an arts editor and feature journalist for the Irish Voice newspaper since 2007.
