The Westboro Baptist Church, an independent Baptist church self-described as combining elements of primitive Baptist and Calvinist principles, has announced that it plans to protest at ‘Jackass’ star Ryan Dunn’s funeral. The church believes that the reason for Dunn’s car crash was not the alcohol, but because: "In His wrath, God cut off this young man in the prime of his life, because he made a mock of sin, and taught his fellow man to grievously sin against God!"

Dunn died on this past Monday, June 20th, when he crashed his Porsche 922 GT3 in West Chester, PA at around two am. Although friends claim that he was fine to drive, Dunn had been drinking heavily prior to that, proven by the Twitter pic he posted just hours before he veered off the road, over the guard rail, and eventually crashed into a tree. The entire car was engulfed in flames by the time police arrived at the scene, and both Dunn, 34, and his passenger, 30 year-old Zachary Hartwell, were killed. Recent analysis discovered that Dunn’s BAC was .196%, while the legal limit is .08%.

The statement that the church released contested that Dunn was a “drab pervert” who encouraged “porn-level filth...to get rich off a perverse generation.”

The group claims that Dunn is now in hell because of the rambunctious roles he took on as a star of “Jackass.” They believe, as expressed in their public statement, that the crash was “the result of his behavior on the MTV reality series and corresponding films, in which he was often seen engaging in crazy - and sometimes sexual - stunts,” reported the NY Daily News.

Although a representative for the funeral home where Dunn’s memorial will take place notes that “we can’t stop something from coming to a public funeral, but this is private,” Westboro is unfazed and continued on in the statement that they would “picket any public memorial/funeral held for Dunn.”

The church, led by disbarred-lawyer-now-minister Fred Phelps, has been active since 1955 and is famous for its radical stances on controversial issues, such as homosexuality. They’re also known to protest at military funerals.
