They have symbolised a lot of what the rest of the world has imagined about Ireland and the Irish for a quarter of a century and have made it a lot easier to be Irish abroad as a consequence. Just as Mandela became short hand for a new South Africa Bono and the boys have given out a cultural and artistic aura from which Ireland has benefited greatly.

Bono himself never did anything for the Peace Process. Come to think of it, he never did anything for Ireland. Why is Irish Central so obsessed with him?
