Bono and U2 proved the star turns despite Lady Gaga’s presence at Bill Clinton’s 65th birthday bash at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday night.

Clinton joined the Irish band on stage for a rendition of ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday’ that moved the former president to tears.

Before the song, Bono praised Clinton's role in the Irish peace process.

“When Edge and I think of all the reasons we might want to be here in the Hollywood Bowl, the Clinton Foundation would be enough. But right on top of the list... is that we live in a country now that is largely and truly at peace -- north and south -- because of the intercession of the 43rd President of the United States, William Jefferson Clinton. He is by far the most beloved American since JFK for all of us Irish.”

Bono stated : “I also want to salute the extraordinary brain he calls his missus... her patience and impatience in traumatized spots of the world is something we should all think of.”

“We've been friends for a long time,” Clinton told the audience. “And I want to say to Bono, thank you for the One Campaign. Thank you for campaigning against debt, thank you trying to save the foreign aid budget of the Secretary of State of the United States, thank you for campaigning against poverty.”

He also stated “I want to say to Edge thank you for doing something very close to my heart. When Katrina almost destroyed the most unique, cultural and musical resource in America in New Orleans, this man led an effort to raise money for the all those musicians in New Orleans area who had no money but who are part of America's history and I will never forget it.”

Lady Gaga appeared as a Marilyn Monroe lookalike and sang  "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" t"
Clinton joked “I thought, 'My God. I get Lady Gaga, and I will have a heart attack celebrating my 65th birthday," Other famous attendees included Maria Bello, Ashton Kutcher, Jason Segel, Ellen DeGeneres, Colin Farrell and Chevy Chase.

"I am the only person in history who got to be President and then had a post-presidential birthday party attended by both Lady Gaga and the Secretary of State," Clinton joked on stage. "I want to thank Hillary because we met 40 years ago this year. When I met her, she was already doing the kind of work you see here long before it was cool."

George I can see where you are coming from but Bailey has a point. As a culchie myself I was born into a world of division and those jackeens were no good. I can't say I've overcome that bias yet. And not just because Kerry was in the final against the Dubs it would have been any county but Dublin. It's deep. It was Bill's birthday and he has done more for Ireland than any other president. And I'm glad to say he has Fermanagh roots.
Nobody Care's. Too busy trying to pay the rent.
Any news about U2 suits me fine!
As Laura Ingraham said, "Shut up and sing."
The super rich, I can only pay the bills with no extra. Can we protest his house? Wasn,t he a public employee?
GeorgeDillon that is both unfair and inaccurate. U2 came to symbolise cool Ireland in the late eighties when it was decidedlu uncool. They have symbolised a lot of what the rest of the world has imagined about Ireland and the Irish for a quarter of a century and have made it a lot easier to be Irish abroad as a consequence. Just as Mandela became short hand for a new South Africa Bono and the boys have given out a cultural and artistic aura from which Ireland has benefited greatly.
Bono himself never did anything for the Peace Process. Come to think of it, he never did anything for Ireland. Why is Irish Central so obsessed with him?
On your birthday it is nice to be honored for what you have done and what you stand for!
