Band wows crowd of 60,000
Irish megaband U2 brought their 360 Tour to Boston on Sunday night, rocking out with a crowd of 60,000.
The band’s spaceship-like 150-foot stage, “The Claw,” landed in Gillette Stadium in the Irish-American city, where Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. were projected on a 360-degree, 14,000 square foot screen.
Popular Irish band Snow Patrol opened for U2 with a 45-minute set including this “Chasing Cars” and “Open Your Eyes.”
U2 then kicked off their performance with four songs from their new album “No Line on the Horizon.”
But fans really got going when the rockers played their back-in-the-day hits like “Mysterious Ways,” “New Year’s Day” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.”
The night wasn’t all glitz and glamour – the band displayed their true talent when they played an acoustic version of “Stuck in a Moment You Can’t Get Out of.”
Human rights activist Bono was sure to incorporate political awareness, dedicating their performance of “Sunday Bloody Sunday” to a “free Iran,” and singing “Walk On” for Burmese political prisoner Aung San Suu Kyi.
Bono and the boys closed the night with a version of “Stand By Me,” which prompted a stadium-wide singalong.
U2 will play another show in Boston tonight, and will next head to Giants Stadium in New Jersey to play two more sold out shows.
