I am sure it's not fair, but I can't take Sean Penn seriously since I first saw him in 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High'.

I think ya "missed the boat" folks. John Francis Nicholson
aka Jack Nicholson was also of Irish Heritage and he won more oscars than anyone on your list. True is father is an unknown entity, but is mother June Nicholson allowed him to be raised by his Irish-American grandparents. Better re-check your sources.

That was a devastating performance by Sean Penn in "Mystic River". Can't think of anyone else who was able to channel that kind of emotional grief.
