I didn't see "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" until just recently, on dvd. I can understand why people might not take him seriously, based on that role. Give him another chance. Did you see "Mystic River"?
I am sure it's not fair, but I can't take Sean Penn seriously since I first saw him in 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High'.
Tracy comes after Gregory Peck???? Who even knew Peck was Irish? I sure didn't.
finally a list I can agree with. Well you can forget Sean Penn. He just plain can't act. His "Oscar was a politically ststement...
I think ya "missed the boat" folks. John Francis Nicholson aka Jack Nicholson was also of Irish Heritage and he won more oscars than anyone on your list. True is father is an unknown entity, but is mother June Nicholson allowed him to be raised by his Irish-American grandparents. Better re-check your sources.
That was a devastating performance by Sean Penn in "Mystic River". Can't think of anyone else who was able to channel that kind of emotional grief.
