The Boss rules Ireland again

Bookmark and Share

Bruce Springsteen might as well purchase some property in Dublin, such is the frequency of his visits to the Emerald Isle. The Boss was there last weekend for two sold-out, outdoor shows at the RDS, and though the weather was pretty awful – could the Irish summer already be over? – the music was fast and furious.

Actually, not so fast. Springsteen and his E-Street Band played for more than three hours, delighting fans with a playlist of 30 songs, including many of his standard-bearers such as “Born to Run” and “Dancing in the Dark.” Evan Springsteen, the Boss’ 18-year-old guitar playing son, joined his pop for “American Land.”

Such is the intensity of Springsteen’s fans that they started lining up on Wednesday morning outside the RDS so they could grab front-row standing positions at Saturday’s show.

As for the man himself, he’s no stranger to Dublin, and told fans that his favorite things to do in the capital city are eating fish ‘n’ chips from Burdock’s, drinking Guinness at O’Donoghue’s pub . . . and enjoying the pretty women.

No, he wasn’t propositioning anyone. Springsteen’s wife of 18 years, Patti Scialfa, is a member of the E Street Band.

It was quite a weekend for music in Ireland. The Oxegen festival took place over four pretty much rain-soaked days at Punchestown in County Kildare, attracting tens of thousands fans who heard from the likes of Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, Snow Patrol and the Script.
