British comic Russell Brand was in Dublin last Friday doing the rounds and showing off his high-profile American girlfriend Katy Perry – after all, what better way to garner publicity for an upcoming project than to have the “I Kissed a Girl” singer on your arm, and Russell’s got two shows in Ireland this week to plug.

Brand was on the “Late Late Show” with Ryan Tubridy, with Katy waiting in the wings, and he had no problem confessing that she makes him happy.

“All I know is that I have met someone who I like and makes me happy. I think it's sensible to take things one step at a time. You can't really speculate, but at the moment I'm very happy being with the one woman," he said.

If his current set-up with Katy doesn’t pan out, Brand says he wouldn’t mind hooking up with Irish singer Sinead O’Connor.

"One always speculates what it would be like to be in a romance with dear Sinead. That would be exciting wouldn't it? She is a powerful human being,” he says.

“I like the way she is outspoken, maternal and artistic. I have never met her and I don't think I'd approach her, but I would definitely await an introduction."

Given his style of “humor,” which he exhibited at this year’s MTV Video Awards – really, he’s more pathetic than funny, but others obviously disagree – it’s not surprising that he’s offended many fellow celebs . . . among them Bob Geldof.

The Irish Live Aid creator and global poverty campaigner let his feelings for Brand be known at a British music ceremony in 2006. Brand was the host and let loose with a torrent of abuse at the celebrity guests in the audience, and Geldof, with typical bluntness, let Brand have it when Geldof came to the stage to accept an award.

"Russell Brand -- what a c***,” Geldof proclaimed. 

Brand wasn’t too impressed and replied, "Geldof's the last person to speak about famine -- he's been dining out on ‘I Don't Like Mondays’ (one of his songs) for 30 years."

The two have seen each other since but haven’t spoken, Brand told the Sunday World. And perhaps his relationship with Perry has mellowed him a bit.

"It was a justified response to him," he says of the awards incident. "Since then there have been several other incidents, we once arrived at a fancy dress both wearing the same costume, we were both Batman.

"Another time at an ice rink we both tried to rescue the same fallen child. It seems Bob Geldof and I are bound to cross paths for the rest of our lives."
