"Twilight" star Robert Pattinson today revealed that he is a first class amadan. That's Irish for fool!

Turns out that Pattinson, currently shooting "Eclipse" in Vancouver, had no idea that the "Twilight" series would be so big.

He says he only knew one person who had actually read any of the "Twilight" books and so he thought the films would be "something really small."

“It’s strange because even though the figures show that the books were successful and sold millions of copies, you couldn’t even buy them in London. I tried a couple of bookshops and they weren’t available," he said.

“Hardly anyone I knew had read them apart from one girl, a friend of my sister. I had no idea at all.

“I’d seen Kristen Stewart in 'Into the Wild; and some of the director Catherine Hardwicke’s other films, and that’s all I thought it was, something really small.”

Pattinson is currently holed up in Vancouver under siege from fans who have surrounded the film set.

He says he's having trouble figuring out what to do next.

“I don’t want to be an actor for the sake of it. I don’t find any particular pleasure in being an attention-seeker.”

Ah well, Robert. Best thing you can do is just sit back and enjoy the ride.
