Robert Downey Jr. seems ready to exit Hollywood for a quieter life.

The Irish-American “Iron Man” actor, who stars in the highly anticipated upcoming film “Sherlock Holmes,” told Entertainment Weekly that though he’s grateful for his success, he finds himself wanting to take a break from acting and relax.

“I have no set plans for my future. I’ve never had it this good – this is my day in the sun – and I certainly don’t want to look a gift horse in the molars,” Downey said.

“But [my wife] Susan and I want to begin to be in our lives as much as we are in our jobs. I’d love just to sit here and say, ‘What movie’s playing tonight?’ I’d love to finish the new book about D-day I’m reading. I love painting, I love music.

“I’m f***ing really good at what I do – and have been for a long time, so I don’t waver on that. But here’s the thing: I can only be a guy on a call sheet probably, I don’t know, maybe a couple more times. It’s something I’m so grateful to have in my palm, and yet I already see its inevitable decay.

“If ‘Sherlock Holmes’ performs well, I could be busy for the next five or seven or 10 years.”

Robert Downey, Jr. is by far one of my favorite actors and all around authentic characters.
Robert Downey, Jr. is one of my favorite actors. He is truly brilliant. I would hate to see him disappear because as we get older and we take that break . . . we can miss that last bus! When a famous actor resurfaces, people acknowledge their come-back, but they don't have the same shine in the publics' eye. Whatever Mr. Downey's decision, I wish him happiness in whatever he decides to do.
