Ridley Scott is in talks to direct Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Cormac McCarthy’s script “The Counceler”

Scott, famous for the cult-classic series of sci-fi “Alien” movies, has just completed the much anticipated 3D space movie “Promoetheus” starring Michael Fassbender and Guy Pearce.

Deadline reports that he has been in direct talks with the Irish writer about directing the script.

This isn’t the first time McCarthy has had his text come to life in film. It was his novels that were behind the movies “No Country for Old Men”, “The Road” and “All the Pretty Horses” (see the trailers below). In fact Nick Wechsler and Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz, who have signed on for “The Counselor” were the producers behind “The Road” (Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall).

According to Deadline’s reports Scott’s banner company, Scott Free Entertainment, is going to come on board while Wechsler and Schwartz produce. The producers have all control over rights and haven’t committed to a studio quite yet.

When the Wechsler got hold of the script he said “The spec falls smack in the middle of what everyone responds to with Cormac’s novels…Since McCarthy himself wrote the script, we get his own muscular prose directly, with its sexual obsessions. It’s a masculine world into which, unusually, two women intrude to play leading roles. McCarthy’s wit and humor in the dialogue make the nightmare even scarier. This may be one of McCarthy’s most disturbing and powerful works.”

“The Counselor” will be set in the same rough and tumble world depicted in “No Country for Old Men”. A respected lawyer, in the southwest of America, turns his hand to the drug business. The story is his tale of trying to survive in a desperate situation.
