I was there that evening, and saw how much time Mr. Farrell spent with the parents, 100 of which he had paid for to attend that evening. If you haven't seen The American Giving awards on tv, suggest you look that up on-line. Mr. Farrell receives the first American giving award for his work for children's charities, most importantly FAST. The clip of Mr. Farrell at home with James, shows a beautiful and loving, happy child. Too often this condition is mis-diagnosed, being that is so rare. It was so great to hear James seizures are under control, as many As children die due to seizures. Also wonderful to see him accept the award, for Kim and all AS parents. Good to see an article that's not slaggin' the man!
joycean, of course there is something wrong; James has AS. Seizures and the inability to speak go along with the syndrome. Re-read the article.
If James has seizures ans can't speak, there is something wrong. Better to be honest and see what can be done.
For a while after my father's death I cared for my older brother, Tommy, who born with mental retardation. Like Collin's experience with his son James, I got outside myself. It was the best and most rewarding time in my life.
