Preview of Peter Jackson’s “Hobbit” set for San Diego Comic Con – VIDEO
Exclusives will include interview with Martin Freeman, Sir Ian McKellen and the director himself
“Lord of the Rings” fans pay attention! Comic Con has announced that this year’s festival in San Diego (12th – 15th July) will feature exclusive previews from Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the preview will include exclusive images, on-set scoops from the two movies and interview with Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins), Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and the director Peter Jackson.
“The Hobbit” follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. The Irish element to these movies comes in the forms of James Nesbit and Aidan Turner who play Bofur and Kili respectively. They both join Bilbo Baggins on his quest.
JRR Tolkien’s classic book “The Hobbit” has been split into two movies. To do this Jackson drew form the author’s writing, adding character who do not appear in the books including Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and the elven ruler Galadriel (Cate Blanchett).
Jackson explains “In the movie we want these characters to have story lines and a little more substance than they do in the book.”
“Almost everything we’re doing is from Tolkien somewhere, whether it’s in the book or the subsequent development that wasn’t published in “The Hobbit” itself.”
McKellen reminded us that it’s been a decade since “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy was release.
He said “A lot of people weren’t even born when we were filming “Lord of the Rings” and only know the movies from watching them on DVD…. They’ll see Middle-earth on the big screen in The Hobbit, and I guarantee there will be a lot of minds blown wide apart.”
The first “Hobbit” movie will be released in 14th December in the US.
