A new documentary ‘Dreaming the Quiet Man’ provides a one-of-a-kind look into the makings of the famed Irish film ‘The Quiet Man.’ Directed by John Ford, who famously didn’t give interviews, the film is breathed new life decades after its creation via the documentary.

UTV reports on ‘Dreaming the Quiet Man,’ the documentary about the classic Irish film. Narrated by Gabriel Byrne, the documentary offers commentary from Hollywood greats like Martin Scorsese, Peter Bogdanovitch and the film’s fiery starlet, 91 year old Maureen O’Hara.

Dublin filmmaker Sé Merry Doyle led the exploratory documentary about ‘The Quiet Man,’ which aims to give viewers a new look at the award-winning and adored film.

"The biggest intention I had with this film" Sé explained "was I'm going to make you look at The Quiet Man like you've never looked at it before...this is a genius at work.”

“It was a love affair,” said Maureen O’Hara about the film’s relationship with Ireland.

John Ford set out to write a sort of love letter and ancestral quest to Ireland, the native land of his parents. Though Ford was born and raised in Maine, he was brought up with a deep appreciation of his Irish roots.

His work would win him a Best Director Academy Award for the film.

“I knew what great directors and actors were like,” said O’Hara about director John Ford, “but he I have to honestly say he was the best...The meanest.”

“Believe me, I would rather work with, pardon me, the old bastard, than not.”
