Irish screen legend Maureen O’Hara celebrated her 90th birthday in style yesterday in Co. Cork amidst family and friends.

Dressed in a black  suit and red scarf, Maureen looked as glamorous as ever with pearl earrings, red lipstick and a dazzling smile. Speaking at the celebrations she said “I have been acting since I took my first steps”.

“I came from a talented acting family. We grew in that environment and we used to put on plays in the back garden and for our parents. By seven, I was already receiving acting instructions.”

The starlet was born Maureen FitzSimons on the August 17, 1920 in Ranelagh Dublin. Taking advice from her acting peers she later changed her name to a more marketable Maureen O’Hara.

With over 60 films under her belt, O’Hara was most famously known for her work alongside John Wayne. One of the pair’s most well known films- “The Quiet Man” was shot in Cong in County Mayo in 1952.

After becoming a Hollywood starlet Maureen was granted American citizenship on January 25, 1946. However she was able to remain an Irish citizen also, this was the first time in history the United States government granted an Irish citizen dual citizenship.

Her memoir “Tis Herself” was published in 2004.

I have always loved the movies, especially the one Maureen O'Hara made, she protrayed strong, dignified, indenpendent women. I have just reading her book 'Tis Herself., took me a long tine to find it. I loved reading it and will keep the copy in my Library. Happy Birthday and know some of us are grateful for the quality of the acting,
I have watched and loved Maureen O'Hara all my life. I was raised with her most wonderful shows, which were all of them. Very, Very, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! and many more.
I hope she had a great birthday last year and has a great one this year. Just watched one of my favorite movies McClintock. the chemestry between Ms. O'Hare and John Wayne is very good. Much health and happiness to Ms. O'Hare and her family.
Go Maureen! She's very attractive for 90 years old and you can tell that she's a nice person and has led a very clean life, and she hasn't forgotten her Irish roots! She hasn't forgotten where she came from and that is Classy!

What a terrific lady........happy birthday! And perhaps it was "emblazoned"?
I have loved Maureen O'Hara since I was a child. I've loved watching her sparkle while starring with John Wayne...her fire and spirit was an inspiration back when women normally took second place to what "their men" thought. Her roles were the appitame of the independent woman. Happy Birthday to a wonderful lady.
One of my favorites...
gotta laugh at boffo typo - bet Miss O'Hara would - guess embroidered or beaded or impressive suit would be more like it - Happy 90th to my favorite actress
This is a true Lady who has shared her life with the world and has given so many women courage when life seemed to whip them. I have been privileged to follow her career from "Hunchback" to "Christmas Box" and each film was better than the one before. Even better, this Lady has shown the world that when life's troubles come that Christian morals prevail. She has shown the world this since her first marriage until today. Thank you for a shining example. Even now you are 90 and I am 70. God Bless You and continue to keep you.
I sent Miss O'Hara a fan letter when I was a boy and received back a small autographed photo. I wish I had that photo today. I was in love with her then...and I still am. I wish her a happy, healthy and wonderful birthday.
Such a beautiful lady still!God bless you Ms.O'Hara.You could teach today's star's a thing or two about acting, having class and staying humble. You are a true "STAR"!A fan from Florida<3
