Liam Neeson may be busy filming blockbuster Hollywood films, but that doesn’t mean he can’t take time out to get back in touch with his Irish roots.

The Oscar nominated actor took a break from filming his latest movie, the remake of “The A-Team,” to shoot a five-minute message to his old school in Ballymena, County Antrim.

St. Patrick’s College, which Neeson attended from 1963 to 1967, and the high school celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

The famous Irishman filmed a tribute to his alma mater that will be shown at a gala dinner on October 17.

Neeson won’t be able to attend the celebration, so he came up with the idea to shoot a video message instead.

Principal of St. Patrick’s Cate Magee said, “When the school was celebrating its 45th anniversary Liam sent us a fax message wishing us well. But obviously technology has improved and he was able to hire a cameraman this time and film this five-minute message to send to us to mark our 50th anniversary.

“Liam still has family in the town who are involved with our celebrations and so he was only too pleased to help out. In fact, it was his idea to film his message and send it to us.”

In the clip, Neeson talks about fond memories of his days at St. Patrick’s, mentioning his favorite teachers and former fellow students. He also credits the school for inspiring his love for drama, and mentions memories of his days with the All Saints Boxing Club.

Principal of St. Patrick’s Cate Magee said everyone at the school is “humbled and proud” that the Irish mega star took the time to record the video.

“Liam is working back-to-back at the moment and has a really hectic schedule, yet still took time out to do this for us,” she said.

“I think that shows what type of man he is. He may be a world-famous star, but he has never lost touch with his roots.”
