Irish singer/songwriter Lesley Roy will perform the National Anthem at the Mets’ home stadium during Irish Night at Citi Field on Friday, August 21.

The 21-year-old, who hails from Balbriggan, County Dublin, is excited for the opportunity to sing in front of thousands of American baseball fans, but admits that she’ll be a bit out of her element.

“It’s definitely going to be different show,” she told IrishCentral. “I’m used to performing with my band, and my guitar, rocking out, and this is going to be a cappella. I’m interested in seeing how it will all go down.”

The successful young Irish singer, who’s signed with Religion Music and licensed with Jive Records, has been traveling the U.S. for the past year to promote her debut hit album, “Unbeautiful.”

Roy has been described as the “Irish Kelly Clarkson,” and she fittingly joined another American Idol favorite, David Archuleta, for a two-month tour across the States earlier in the year.

Backed by a full band, the Ireland native performed songs off her pop-rock album, including title track and Billboard Top 40 hit “Unbeautiful” and her popular single “I’m Gone, I’m Going,” which was featured on an episode of MTV’s “The Hills.”

“It’s been great,” Roy said of performing in the U.S. “We just rock out. We’ve never had a bad audience.”

Breaking into the American music scene was a thrill for Roy, who grew up accompanying her mother, who’s also a singer, at her cover band gigs. “I was brought up going around to weddings and all the little pubs in Ireland,” Roy said.

It’s the music her mother played back for her back home that inspires Roy’s sound today, which she says is “in the vein of Kelly Clarkson and Pink, and has some old classic rock in there as well.”

“I grew up listening to a lot of older music: Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Melissa Etheridge,” Roy said.
