Laoisa Sexton is determined to bring brilliantly funny “For Love” to Ireland
Irish playwright wants to bring her play to Ireland
But Sexton and her cast won’t be waiting for things to change however.
“You can’t be an actor these days without doing other things. Which includes finding work for yourself or making work for yourself. I’d rather get something done,” she says.
An online campaign to raise funds for the Irish tour has seen admirers and friends contribute whatever they can afford. Another fundraising idea will involve a Blind Date night at the Irish Center in Long Island City on February 8.
“I’m an actor first and I’m always looking for good scripts to do. I was reading this book about the Irish theater and someone in it said when you’re sitting in Bewley’s café and you see two grannies having a fight it isn’t theatre. I strongly disagree,” Sexton says.
“I wanted to write something that looked like what happens when you’re out with your mates and you see something that makes you say oh my God if this was a film no one would believe it.”
Blind date tickets are $25 at the door with an open cocktail hour from 7-8 p.m. To nominate a contestant or participate call Jane McCarter at 718-482-0909 or email at jane@newyorkirishcenter.org.
