Of course there are the internationally known and beloved bands like U2, Thin Lizzy, The Corrs and The Frames but every year new Irish bands are popping up and making a major impression on the music industry.
We decided to put together a list, and some videos from, the ten band from Ireland that have really caught our eyes over the last five years.
1. The Script
This soft rock band from Dublin released their debut, self-entitled album in 2008 and recently released their second album. Their first single “Breakeven” went Platinum having sold over one million copies in the U.S. It peaked at number 12 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
So far the band has won various awards including World Music Awards for 'Best Selling Irish Act' of 2008 and the Best Live Performance at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards.
2. The Coronas
The Coronas’ released their first record five years ago and have achieved success at home and overseas in the U.S, U.K and Asia with their first two albums “Heroes or Ghosts” (2007) and “Tony Was An Ex-Con” (2009). The Meteor Award-winning four piece band from Dublin achieved chart success with both albums.
3. Bell X 1
The band, from Kildare, have release four critically acclaimed albums in Ireland. The band was formed in 1999, a follow on from the Damien Rice fronted band, Juniper. They released their first album “Neither Am I” in 2000. Since then they have released “Music in Mouth”, “Flock”, “Tour De Flock”.
The band also had success in the U.S with live performances on the “Late Show with David Letterman” (twice), “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” and “Late Night with Conan O'Brien”
“Blue Lights on the Runway” was their first studio album without Brian Crosby. According to Billboard, apart from U2 they receive the most air play in Ireland.
4. Delorentos
Delorentos formed in 2005 in Dublin. Their debut album “Love with Detail” was critically acclaimed in Ireland and nominated for the Choice Music Prize at the Meteor Awards along with the Best New Irish Band.
