Irish movies ‘Death of a Superhero’ and ‘Albert Nobbs’ get rave reviews at TIFF- VIDEO
Irish productions premiere at TIFF
Irish productions “Death of a Superhero” and “Albert Nobbs” have received excellent reviews at this years Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Critics are raving about the Ian Fitzgibbon’s film, "Death of a Superhero" which is based on the Anthony McCarten’s novel of the same name, that tells the story of a cancer stricken teenager who longs for sex and adventure.
The movie made its worldwide debut at the TIFF, and Variety praised the Irish/German production by saying, “Fitzgibbon has achieved something special…the pic’s general appeal will lie in its honest and touching performances”.
“Albert Nobbs” left critics astonished by its great story and cast, including Glenn Close and Brendan Gleeson. Glenn Close, the leading actress, is already leaning toward a possible Oscar nomination for her gender-bending role in the film.
In her search for freedom and independence, the character attempts to escape the troubles of being a woman in Ireland in the late 19th century and does so by dressing up as a man so she can work in one of Dublin’s leading hotels.
The Parallel Films production received four stars from The Guardian, calling Glenn Close’s performance ‘terrific,’ and was also voted as the Toronto Download #1.
Release dates are set to be announced shortly.
