The Irish documentary ‘The Summit’ has won a prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival in Utah.

RTE reports that the film took home an award for editing.

The film tells the harrowing story of Irish climber Ger McDonnell, who was killed attempting to climb K2 along with his fellow mountaineers. 24 climbers had set out to climb K2, but 11 didn’t survive the perilous hike.

Producer Olivia Leahy told 98FM in Dublin that their film caught the judges' attention by "telling the story from each of the climbers' points of view, and keeping the emotion in it, that people died on the mountain that day, as well as all the controversies."

The film will have its Irish premiere at the Jameson Film Festival on February 24.
