Irish censor reveals Soairse Ronan’s ‘Lovely Bones’ as the most complained about movie

The Irish Film Classification Office (IFCO) has revealed that Peter Jackson's film “The Lovely Bones”, starring Irish actor Soarise Ronan, was the most complained about movie in 2010.

The movie, based on an Alice Sebold novel, told the story of the rape and murder of a teenage girl (Ronan). Originally the movie was giving a 15A certification by Paramount Pictures but this was reduced to 12A.

The British equivalent of the IFCO, the BBFC, also reported that it received the most  complaints last year. They noted that it was “right on the borderline' of a 12 cert and 15 cert movie, but received the 12A rating due the lack of 'explicit detail of the murder,” according to Movies.ie.

Irish audiences also complained about “Vampires Suck”, “The Other Guys”, “Precious”, “Piranha 3D”, “Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief”, “Predator” and “Is Anybody There”.

In Britain, bizarrely, Pixar’s “Toy Story 3” was one of the movies that got most complaints. Audiences felt that it was too dark for younger audiences.
