The Irish Film & Television Network have revealed that a €5 million “fast moving, Irish gangster/cage fighting film” called ‘Ringsend’ is due for production in Ireland this year. The story will revolve around a hardened drug dealer from Amsterdam who uses a cage fighting tournament to cover up a multi-million pound drug deal with Irish and UK criminals.

The film, which has been attached to such names as Martin Kemp (Spandau Ballet, Eastenders), Don Baker (In The Name of the Father) and Terry Chimes (former drummer with The Clash), is set in Dublin with occasional scenes in London and Amsterdam and will begin shooting in October.

As well as Kemp, Baker and Chimes, former Miss World Rosanna Davison will be making her film debut appearance. Irish Producers have indicated that they are in touch with other Irish stars and familiar faces from the U.S. may also be featured as the film is an Irish/US co-production.

The IFTN report that ninety per cent of the film budget has been raised by U.S. producers, Cinematheque International Entertainment, while Irish producer Fintan Cullen of the Entertainment Factory in Dublin will raise the remaining ten per cent from Irish and UK sources.

Section 481 of the Taxes Consolidation Act, which was brought in to encourage investment in Irish films by allowing tax relief on film projects located in Ireland, may also help the production of ‘Ringsend’ and will hopefully promote other such projects to come to Ireland.
