Former boxer "Irish" Micky Ward, the pride of Lowell, Massachusetts whose inspirational life story is now the subject of Mark Wahlberg’s major Oscar contender The Fighter, is set to be the Grand Marshal of the 2011 Cape Cod Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.
The beloved boxer will be joined by the Cape’s American Idol star Irish singer Siobhan Magnus, who will be the 2011 Parade Queen when the march steps off on March 5.
Magnus and Ward will also attend the Grand Marshal’s dinner dance on Friday, March 4 at the Irish Village in Yarmouth.
In recent years the parade has become one of the largest off-season occasions on the Cape, drawing upwards of 45,000 spectators from all over the country last year.
This year’s event is themed The Music of Ireland, and it will feature over a dozen marching bands from all over New England, including eye-catching floats, classic cars, and family entertainment.
