The father of Irish comedian Des Bishop died on Friday. Michael Bishop had been battling lung cancer for over a year. He was from Queens, New York, where his son Des grew up before becoming a major comedian in Ireland.
Des Bishop’s critically-acclaimed comedy show ‘My Dad was Nearly James Bond,’ which the comedian said celebrated “the heroics of fatherhood,” was the subject of an Irish television documentary, which aired on January 27th,
“I’ve wanted to tell his story since even before he got sick,” Des Bishop told The Irish Times last summer.
The film concludes with Des’s father joining him on stage at last year’s Edinburgh festival.
The national tour of the show has been postponed until further notice. Ticket holders have been asked to contact individual venues directly for further information.
