“The Bible” producers Mark Burnett, who created the reality tv show “Survivor” and actress Roma Downey believe the show’s success happened with help from the “hand of God.”

The History Channel’s new series “The Bible” has become a big success with more than 13 million viewers of its first episode on March 3. The show is a surprise winner for its timeslot on Sunday night.

The Daily Mail
reports in an interview before the season’s premiere last Sunday, Mark Burnett said, “The hand of God was on this. The edit came together perfectly, the actors came together perfectly, it just comes to life.”

The producers say that the cast and crew noticed a couple of “weird things” that occurred on the hit series’ set in North Africa. In one scene Jesus tells the priest Nicodemus, “The Holy Spirit is like the wind” and then Burnett says, “At that moment, a wind, like as if a 747 as taking off, blew his hair, almost blew the set over and sustained for 20 seconds across the desert.” He says, “Everyone just looked at everyone like ‘What just happened?’”

In another scene 48 snakes appeared at the base of the cross where Jesus was to be crucified. The production had hired a ‘snake wrangler’ to keep snakes off the set and he usually found one or two snakes per day. The scene was risky due to dangers involved in mocking an execution.

During the scene of Jesus’ baptism, part of the actor’s irreplaceable costume came off and floated away. The producers were afraid that the costume had been lost. Burnett said, “Four days later, a kid showed up from many, many, many miles away, who had been seeking us through the desert to return this to us. He didn’t know what it was why he should seek us, but he felt he had to return it.”

“The Bible” airs in two hour episodes on Sunday night on the History Channel. The finale will air on March 31, Easter Sunday.

The history channel must be doing a series on fairy stories. Roma Downey is obviously mentally deluded. Why didn't she ask the great big paw in the sky to go ahead and magic up the whole story on it's own.
Redneck by name and redneck by nature. Nothing intelligent to post.
OMG !!!! Have these two idiots no shame !!!! The hand of God???
Something that occurred to me only after posting my previous comment is that this actor, like many others playing Jesus before him, is very handsome. Yet the Bible -- I forget where exactly at the moment -- states, and I have to paraphrase here, that there was little or nothing about Jesus to draw people to him. One interpretation is that it is unlikely that he was "handsome" in the 'good-looking' sense of the word. He must certainly have been charismatic, however, and able to speak loudly enough to be understandable to crowds.
THis "Holywoodized" version of the bible should be relegated to the realms of "fairytales". I wonder where the hand of God is when drones murder "Gods children". Your not wrong about dumbing down the populace.
"In one scene Jesus tells the priest Nicodemus..." Hey, if they managed to get Jesus and Nicodemus from celestial central casting then, sure, the hand of god must be all over the production and also, I assume, outstretched for his 10%.
Am certainly suspicious of some of the programs that have appeared on the History Channel: one being their program about UFO's, a "cottage industry"/possibly wacky subject that didn't seem like the History Channel was the proper venue for something so uncertified. Same goes for any attempt by them to depict accurately the origins of Christianity. Anyway, I will watch and hopefully report back when I can be more specific.
This is hysterical....Mark Burnett has done more to contribute to the "dumbing down" of this nation by being the man who poisoned us with Survivor, the Apprentice and other insipid reality TV. I don't think God would approve of the sleazy, treacherous behavior of the people on these shows. This srikes me as a lame attempt to get some respectability.
