Liam Neeson has come under fire from animal rights activists after admitting he sampled some wolf meat during the filming of his latest blockbuster “The Grey”.

In his newly released flick, the Belfast born actor plays the leader of a group of oil workers who are being hunted by wolves after their plane crashes in the Arctic.

On the press circuit for the movie, Neeson admitted he tried some wolf stew.

"It was very gamey," he said, according to Radar.com.

"But I'm Irish, so I'm used to odd stews. I can take it. Just throw a lot of carrots and onions in there and I'll call it dinner."

The 59-year-old added that while other cast members got sick, he "went up for seconds".

In a statement, the animal rights group PETA said: "Neeson's stance on kindness to animals is sorely out of step with the rest of the world."

The group urged movie goers "Don't just shy away. Run away from The Grey."

Despite CGI featuring heavily in the film, PETA claims the film's director, Joe Carnahan, got a wolf carcass from a trapper for some of the film’s footage.

"Many animals caught in traps chew off their own limbs in order to escape," said Jane Dollinger, a spokeswoman for PETA.

"These animals go on to die of gangrene or other secondary infections, sometimes leaving nursing puppies abandoned to fend for themselves."

The films producers declined to comment.

DrTrelawney! Interesting points I wasn't particularly aware of. Maybe a case of humano-centric bahaviour. Of course it's a given that no other species of the animal kingdom (republic?) descended to the level of barbarism that human beings managed to do in two world wars and interminable less slaughterous local conflicts.
IrelandNorth, no animal is the most "highly evolved". As any biologist will explain a slug is as "evolved" as a human being. We are slower than cheetahs, less agile than gazelles and less strong than gorillas. We do happen to have more flexible brains than any other creature, but that doesn't mean we are the pinnacle of any evolutionary tree.
Wolves don't behave the way the movie portrays them.I have studied wolves and worked on the Yellowstone Re-introduction Program.
Liam! As a fellow (vegan-)Irishman, take Kevin Kostner's more altruistic advice. Your supposed to dance with them, not eat them. Irish Central/Lar Eireannach posters! Consider this. If Aristotle was right in saying that what you eat you are. Does that not mean than by eating the flesh of dead animals, we become dead animals too. If impressive British evolutionist Charles Darwin was correct that humans are the most highly evolved, does that not mean that eating the flesh of lesser evolved creatures makes us proto-cannibals. Take my advice guys. Go veggie!
It's been proven (dna)that wolves have bred with coyotes in N.E. - Ohio and Pa. this is not good for small pet and animal owners-two predator species breeding.Introduction of coyotes to this area has not worked (to control deer population)because tree huggers didn't want deer (shooting) drives.
I agree with merefallow....anyone who knows anything about wolves knows that a healthy one is never going to attack a group of large men armed with fire...not even in a pack...we did not need another fictional horror film that is going to eliminate a lot of the good that's been done in the name of this endangered species...but I say, if the animal was already dead, they might as well eat if....if they are man enough, which, apparently most of them weren't..
Lot's a guys eat cats!
people will believe all this boys own crap, there is not one documented recording of a wolf attack, except one rabid, they have just succeeded in introducing the wolf back into the wild in the usa,and there is a massive backlash against it by all the so called hunters and SPORTSMEN?WHO LOVE BLOWING THE GUTS OUT OF ANYTHING THAT FLIES,CRAWLS ,OR SWIMS.why do people like killing wild creatures so much?instead of enjoying the beauty of their very wildness?they should make plain its a fictional film because it will give all the morons with guns a reason to kill, not that they need one, sarah palin clones.,i think he,s a dick.
I see nothing wrong in him eating something that was already cooked. Its not like he went out and shot a wolf just to taste it.
