Awards season is in full swing these days, with Oscar nods coming on Thursday and the Golden Globes set for Sunday.

You’ll be seeing Lincoln star Daniel Day-Lewis all over the red carpet in the lead up to the Academy Awards next month.  The British/Irish actor is widely expected to scoop his third Oscar statuette for his stunning transformation into Abraham Lincoln – and let’s face it, when DDL utterly recreates himself on screen, he’s pretty unbeatable when it comes to winning all the plaudits.

The White House recently released a new stream of photos on Flickr, one of which showed Day-Lewis viewing the original Gettysburg Address in the Lincoln Bedroom.  President Obama was treated to a private screening of the film in November with Day-Lewis and director Steven Spielberg, and afterwards the prez invited DDL to the famous Lincoln room to see the Gettysburg Address for himself.

Speaking recently to an Australian publication to promote the release of Lincoln there next month, Day-Lewis, a resident of Co. Wicklow when he’s not working, says he misses playing Honest Abe.

"I will, I know, for the rest of my life regard this as having been one of the great privileges of my life, that's just a fact," he says. "After which it's hard to imagine quite what I'm going to do with myself."

Well, he can keep busy for a while by getting some new shelving for all the new awards he’ll be taking home in the next few weeks.
