Finally, Damian McGinty talks about his new role as Rory on ‘Glee’ – spoilers
Former Celtic Thunder singer chats about his role as foreign exchange student Rory Flanagan
After much anticipation, co-champion of ‘The Glee Project’ and Derry native Damian McGinty reveals some tidbits about his upcoming debut on Fox’s ‘Glee.’ Rivalries and hi-jinx arise when McGinty’s character, Irish foreign exchange student, Rory Flanagan, arrives at McKinley High.
In an interview with TVGuide , McGinty explains how a rivalry may be brewing between him and Kurt [Chirs Colfer]. “He does a falsetto in his first song,” says McGinty of his character Rory, “and Kurt did not like that because Kurt’s the soprano of the group and doesn’t want that taken from him.”
The introduction of Rory also incites a bit of a rivalry between other Glee singers Santana [Naya Rivera] and Brittany [Heather Morris]. Rory lives with Brittany’s family as a home-stay student and, in typical Brittany fashion, Brittany believes that Rory “is her own personal leprechaun that only she can see.” McGinty speaks of a “fun scene in Brittany’s bedroom,” which presumably incites jealousy in Santana as she is “quietly in love with Brittany.” “She doesn’t like Rory because he also has a thing for Brittany,” says McGinty.
The good news is that Damian seems to be getting along well with his new castmates. Last week, Glee stars Lea Michele and Cory Monteith, among others, tweeted and blogged praises and welcome for newcomer McGinty. “I am having the time of my life,” McGinty tells TVGuide.
As winner of ‘The Glee Project,’ McGinty is guaranteed seven episodes on ‘Glee’. Only time will tell if his character will become a regular. Tune in November 1st at 8pm on FOX to see Damian’s debut!
