New York’s iconic Empire State Building has refused to illuminate the building with Spiderman’s signature colors-  red and blue for next Tuesday for the opening night of"Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark".

 

According to the New York Post, executives at the world famous building said they will only change the colors if the climactic battle between Spiderman and Green Gobin is changed from the Chrysler Building to the Empire State.

 

The musical’s crew members were not impressed: "How ludicrous. We're a week away from opening," a source told the New York Post.

 

"We're not going to be changing the set."

 

Another "Spider-Man" source said, "Do you know what all these sets cost? It would cost a fortune to change it, and there just isn't enough time. Also, the Chrysler Building is an integral part of the show."

A third person involved in the multi-million musical said Chrysler was staying.

 

"We're sorry to be caught in the crossfire between these two warring icons of New York. But we're sticking with the Chrysler Building."

 

In response a source from the Empire State rebuked: “we love Spider-Man, but the Empire State Building is the world's most famous office building and the icon of the New York City skyline, and omitting it from the set isn't the first misstep the 'Spider-Man' musical has made."

 

The $70 million production, spearheaded by U2’s Bono and the Edge has underwent an extensive overhaul in recent weeks, after numerous scathing reviews.
