There aren't too many Irish World War II heroes. But in December, a new video game is going to rewrite history.

Pandemic Studios, of "Mercenaries" "Star Wars: Battlefront and Destroy All Humans" fame, will debut "The Saboteur" on Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Set in 1940s Paris, you play Sean Devlin, an Irish racing car driver wll-known in the Paris racing world. The German occupation doesn't faze him, until one by one his friends are killed by Nazi soldiers. He then takes it upon himself to sabotage the German war machine in any way he can.

It takes a different approach to WW2 than other games, and forgoes the typical All-American G.I. taking on the entire German army on his own, for a more subtle, "Metal Gear Solid"-esque, approach to achieving your goals. Going in with all guns blazing will only send you on a quick trip to the morgue; stealth and cunning are the only way to succeed at this game.

One of the main talking points about "The Saboteur" is the art direction. The colour pallet is mostly a dramatic black and white to set the sombre tone of 40s Paris. The few hints of color are bright, fiery reds and oranges, which get brighter as the people of Paris become more supportive of your efforts.

We'll have to wait till December to see if Pandemic creates a hero worthy of the “Fighting Irish,” but hopefully Sean Devlin will capture the imaginations of gamers.
