Clip of Stephen Fry on Irish language soap opera leaked - SEE VIDEO

Stephen Fry

A sneak preview of British actor Stephen Fry's cameo on the Irish language soap opera “Ros na Run” on station TG4 has been released to YouTube.

Fry was invited on the show after visiting the set in Connemara, in west Galway. He was in the area making a BBC TV series on minority languages called "Planet Word.”

The veteran British comic appears as an English tourist and has just four lines “as Gaelige” (in Irish). Fry’s fellow cast members praised his professionalism and how he coped with the language.

Now in its 15th series, “Ros na Run” celebrated its 1,000th episode on December 31, 2009. The soap has featured strong story lines such as domestic violence, suicide, rape, drugs, elder abuse and abortion.

The soap is also broadcast on WYBE public television in Philadelphia.

What a good sport. The man's such a charmer.
Ce he Stephen Fry? Who is this guy and why is it of interest to us? If it is the fact that he's an Englishman learning Irish then that's nothing, there's a long tradition of English lovers of Gaelic, going back to the great Robin Flower. Of course the useless Irish government has never recognized the contribution of these men--you'll see all kinds of senseless street names in Ireland, Tudor Avenue, Windsor Way, Queen Elizabeth Road etc., but you'll never see one, not even in Galway or Dingle, that commemorates these friends of Irish culture.
I didn't know this program was available in the US. I'll see if I can find it. Thanks.
What channel is WYBE on Cablevision? I used to watch it on Ch. 14 but that channel was taken away.
I liked him on Bones in the US
