Bruce Springsteen named MusiCares' Person of the Year 2013

'Born to Run' singer joins former recipients Bono and Sir Paul McCartney

Bruce Springsteen will be honoured for his musical genius and his charity work by the MusiCares Foundation  a non-profit organisation established in 1989 by the Recording Academy  at their 23rd annual ceremony on February 8 2013.

Neil Portman, Academy and MusiCares' president and CEO said:  "Bruce Springsteen is a truly gifted and Renaissance artist of our time, a national treasure, and an exemplary humanitarian.

"His career is a testament to the power of creative excellence, and his contributions as a philanthropist speak to the tenacity of the human spirit.

"We are privileged and honored to pay tribute to Bruce this year as our MusiCares Person of the Year."

The 62-year-old musician  whose recording career spans nearly 40 years  will reveive the award at the annual Los Angeles-based gala dinner and star-studded tribute concert two days before the Grammy Awards.

Sir Paul McCartney, Aretha Franklin, Sir Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Bono have all received the award in the past.

MusiCares ensures people within the music industry have a place to turn in times of financial, medical, and personal need.
